Psalms 126-130

FIVE SIMPLE PLEASURES:

  1. gus and elsaA family breakfast
  2. A walk on the beach with the dogs
  3. Fish and chips at the pub
  4. Watching a film on the sofa with my man
  5. Me and my daughter painting each others toe nails

PSALM 126: SEASONS

Those who sow with tears
will reap with songs of joy. v5

Everything is for a season. Said this to a friend the other day and it made her want to hit me. Because it does sound like a platitude and when you’re in the depths, it feels very superficial and impossible to believe. But think back. Look around you. Reflect on where we are now – between Good Friday and Easter Sunday. There is a truth in it that can bring light to the darkness.

PSALM 127: GOD IN IT

Unless the Lord builds the house,
the builders labour in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain. v1

Without God in it, it is pointless. Whatever ‘it’ is. Invite Him to be part of every adventure. Seek His will and His blessing. Seek His advice.

PSALM 128: CHILDREN

Your wife will be like a fruitful vine
within your house;
your children will be like olive shoots
round your table. v3

I’ve had my fair share of ups and downs with my kids.Heartache. Anxiety. Stress. But this weekend, we are all coming together to celebrate another one making it to adulthood and it feels really good. I feel blessed to have been able to do this. I will never take it for granted.

PSALM 129: TOUGH

They have greatly oppressed me from my youth,
but they have not gained the victory over me. v2

Some people around the world have it tough. Have had it tough for a really long time. It takes a special kind of faith and hope to stand strong for a long, long time. To believe deliverance will come. Holding on to hope day after day after day – that takes courage.

PSALM 130: MY WHOLE BEING WAITS

If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,
Lord, who could stand?
But with you there is forgiveness,
so that we can, with reverence, serve you. v3-4

Sometimes it’s easy to forget. To take God’s grace and love for granted. To forget how He abhors wrongdoing. How He is holy. Separate from all wrong. It is only because of his forgiveness that we can enter His presence. That we can serve Him. That we can be in relationship with Him.
