Psalms 121-125

FIVE SIMPLE PLEASURES:

  1. becca and gusWaking up to some positive affirmation about my new venture
  2. A really slow start
  3. Really relaxing and funny food shop with my daughter
  4. Followed by a really relaxing and funny swim with my daughter
  5. My son and his wife and his dog coming home for a week

PSALM 121: ASSURING WORDS

I lift up my eyes to the mountains –
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth. v1-2

What better place could my help come from? So why do I look for help in sorts of things and places before I think of turning to God?

PSALM 122: JERUSALEM

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem  v6

Still an important prayer for today.

PSALM 123: WE LOOK TO GOD

Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us,
for we have endured no end of contempt. v3

Sometimes we have it pretty tough (not as tough as people on Facebook would make out or as tough as David did or as tough as Christians in other parts of the world, but that’s another story). We are misunderstood and mocked for our faith. People look to catch us out, trip us out, make us look foolish.

PSALM 124: OUR HELP

If the Lord had not been on our side –
the raging waters
would have swept us away. v1&5

It is good to reflect on how God has helped us, how He has helped us hold things together, how He has stopped us from drowning……

PSALM 125: THERE FOR US

As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so the Lord surrounds his people
both now and for evermore. v2

We are surrounded by the ultimate protector. Nothing can separate us from the love of God.
