Psalms 6-10

FIVE A DAY: Had the worst day ever! Not a single piece of fruit or veg passed my lips all day. Shame on me!

FIVE SIMPLE PLEASURES

  1. Dance. Always dance.
  2. My welcome home from my mad dogs
  3. Watching a favourite TV show with my daughter
  4. Hearing news from my kids about good stuff at school
  5. Getting into my own bed after a couple of nights away

PSALM 6: RAW EMOTION

My soul is in deep anguish.
How long, Lord, how long?  v3

It’s OK to be real with God. More than OK. To cry out to Him in distress and anguish. To find a language for our pain. This Psalm can help us with that.

PSALM 7: SHOW YOUR POWER

Lord my God, I take refuge in you;
save and deliver me from all who pursue me.  v1

Our God is mighty to save.

PSALM 8: I KNOW MY PLACE

When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?  v3-4

When we consider God’s creation, we quickly realise our place in the grand scheme of things. It’s amazing that God does care for us all.

PSALM 9: AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE

Those who know your name trust in you,
for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. v10

This is good news! God is good! Let’s shout about all He has done for us!

PSALM 10: HOW DO THEY GET AWAY WITH IT?

But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted;
you consider their grief and take it in hand.
The victims commit themselves to you;
you are the helper of the fatherless.  v14

There’s so much evil being done in our world. And people seem to be getting away with it. We don’t understand. We don’t have the answers. We have to find a way to trust. To trust that God is always on the side of the victim. That God cares for the helpless.
