Psalms 56-60

FIVE SIMPLE PLEASURES:

  1. creme eggA great time in the fitting rooms at TKMaxx
  2. Finding the perfect dress
  3. Having a lovely time doing the food shopping with my daughter
  4. The avocado wrap and Yoga Bunny drink at Pret a Manger
  5. My first creme egg of the season

PSALM 56: STILL UNDER ATTACK

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
In God, whose word I praise—
in God I trust and am not afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?  v3-4

Trusting in God sets us free from the fear of what others may think or do or say.

PSALM 57: THE ULTIMATE PROTECTION

I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
I will sing of you among the peoples.
For great is your love, reaching to the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches to the skies.  v9-10

David is experiencing God’s love and faithfulness and protection in a very real way every single day. He has much to praise God for. Much to sing about. Are our lives sometimes too comfortable so that we lose sight of all that God can do?

PSALM 58: FIERCE STUFF

May they be like a slug that melts away as it moves along.. v8a

David really wants his enemies to get their comeuppance and has some pretty clear views of how this should look!

PSALM 59: THE SUFFERING GOES ON…AND ON

You are my strength, I sing praise to you;
you, God, are my fortress,
my God on whom I can rely. v17

Reading the Psalms through like this is really reinforcing how David stood firm in his confidence in his God, regardless of what was going on around him.

PSALM 60: RAGE MODE

You have shaken the land and torn it open;
mend its fractures, for it is quaking. v2

There’s always plenty of destruction around us – natural and man-made. God can restore. God can heal. God can bring life and hope.
