Our response to our amazing God

So in Nehemiah 10, the people make a binding agreement. In writing. And there’s a list of everyone who signs it.

Why do they do this?

In view of all this,…….   Nehemiah 9:38

In the light of everything that had gone before in Nehemiah 9. It’s a natural response.

celebrate 2See yesterday’s blog if you need reminding of what was in that chapter that provoked this response. In that prayer, they reminded themselves of all that God is and all that God has done.

And when we remind ourselves of all that God is and all that God has done, we respond. We can’t help it.

So what would our response look like? How would our binding agreement read? Maybe something like this:-

OBEY: We will live God’s way to live and do all that He asks of us.

no compromiseNO COMPROMISE: We will not slip into doing what the people around us are doing, which is less than God intends for us.

SHARE: We will not keep all that we have to ourselves but will share what we have to build God’s kingdom here on earth.

SUPPORT: We will support the work of God among His people –  in our churches, small groups and wherever people are united in God’s name to serve Him.

That’s it. That’s the basis of the agreement that the people signed. Maybe that is what this agreement would look like today.

And who would put their name to it? Would you?
