ACTS 6: Honour a special person who’s influenced you and inspired you

Come join this journey as we continue through the Bible and travel with Jesus’ followers through the Book of Acts. It’s an exciting adventure full of twists and turns. We’ll read a chapter a day and I’ll provide a link to the chapter in the NIV(UK) version, but you can read the chapter in whatever version you like. I’ll then share some short reflections, but the important part is the last part: ACTION. Let’s start acting on what we are reading. Join me in one small act inspired each day by the chapter for that day.

Are you up for the challenge?

Then let’s continue!

READ: Acts 6

REFLECTION: Unity is difficult, because in reality within any group, there are subdivisions. There are differences. Even if we are all followers of Jesus, there will be other factors that will potentially divide and separate us. Small groups develop of like-minded people, people who’ve come from the same background. People start to compare how they are regarded and treated. In this case, some of the widows are being overlooked and the disciples do what they need to do to fix this. They gather a team around them, because no one person can do it all.

Enter Stephen. We don’t know much about him, but we don’t need to. He’s full of the Spirit and wisdom. That’s why he’s chosen to do this work. He’s obedient in the faith. He does what he’s asked to do. He’s a man full of God’s grace and power.

He needs to be silenced, but the members of the Synagogue of the Freedmen can not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gives him as he speaks. They have nothing against him so they have to make it up.

And his face is like the face of an angel.

ACTION: Honour a special person who’s influenced you and inspired you

As you look back over your life, maybe you have been fortunate enough to encounter some Stephens – men and women of God, full of the Spirit and wisdom, grace and power.

Reflect today on those who have influenced you in your journey of faith, those who have inspired you by the way they live and walk with God. Give thanks for them.

If it feels appropriate, why not connect with that special person today and let them know how they have influenced your life for good?
