ACTS 2: Declare the wonders of God

Join us this month as we continue our journey through the Bible and travel with Jesus’ followers through the Book of Acts. It’s an exciting adventure full of twists and turns. We’ll read a chapter a day. I’ll provide a link to the chapter in the NIV(UK) version, but you can read the chapter in whatever version you like. I’ll then share some short reflections, but the important part is the last part: ACTION. Let’s start acting on what we are reading. Join me in one small act inspired each day by the chapter for that day.

Are you up for the challenge?

Then let’s continue!

READ: Acts 2

REFLECTION: The Holy Spirit comes to Jesus’ followers. Just as Jesus said it would. Just as the prophet Joel prophesied that it would. It’s all a part of God’s deliberate plan. And when Jesus promises, he will not let his people down.

It’s loud and weird and scary. Supernatural. Unnerving. Hard to understand and explain. The Spirit moves among God’s people in supernatural ways causing supernatural things to happen. That’s the nature of the Spirit. And yet there is no need to be afraid. It’s all a part of God’s deliberate plan.

About three thousand were added to their number that day. And more and more every single day. That’s a real challenge in itself. What attracted the people to this Jesus?

  • he was the real deal
  • the Spirit was at work for all to see
  • Jesus’ followers were out in the street talking to the people in a way they could understand
  • Peter told the Jesus story in a clear, engaging, relevant way
  • the lives of Jesus’ followers demonstrated Jesus’ message in action: they met together and shared together and developed a vibrant faith community

ACTION: Declare the wonders of God

‘We hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues.’

How can you find a way to declare the wonders of God today in a relevant, engaging way?

Maybe as a Facebook post or meme, a poem or a photo, a drawing or a dance, or something else completely different…

Experiment. Have some fun. Be creative. Let your imagination run wild!
