Choose life!

Happy New Year hd wallpaper 2015Welcome to a new year and a new month and a new book of the Bible. What better way to enter into 2015 than with this verse from the Book of Deuteronomy –

This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.  Deuteronomy 30:19

None of us know what measure of life and death, blessings and curses we will have to face in the year ahead. But even in the darkness, we can see glimmers of light. In the midst of fears, we can cling on to hope. In the hardest of times, we can count our blessings.

CHOOSELIFE_NEON-2Sometimes it is not literal life and death that we are facing, but we can choose whether we surround ourselves with people and situations that are life-giving or people and situations that drain us of life. We can strive to adopt a positive attitude towards life rather than letting the curse of negativity sour our lives and kill our joy. Sometimes of course, commitments mean that that is not always a straightforward choice, but we need to find ways to restore our soul when we have been drained of life. There will be little moments every day where we can choose life.

This is my resolution in 2015: TO CHOOSE LIFE

Everyday I intend to notice one tiny thing that makes me feel connected to life in all its fullness and post it on Facebook. One little moment of LIFE every day for a year. Maybe you would like to give it a try too.

And so to Deuteronomy. Here’s part of the introduction to Deuteronomy from ‘The Bible Guide’ by Andrew Knowles (LION) –

The book of Deuteronomy is Moses’ farewell to the people. He encourages them to go on and occupy the land which God promised to their ancestors long ago. He reviews their journey together and spells out in simple language the terms of their covenant with God……….Deuteronomy is a warm-hearted, forward-looking book. It contains brilliant rules for a full and happy life – a life based on a total commitment to God.’

Sounds great, doesn’t it? A great book to kick off this new year with. Looking forward to seeing these ‘brilliant rules for a full and happy life’.

Let’s all discover more fully this year what it is to CHOOSE LIFE.
