It’s time to slow down…..

lukeweddingThe first of April…the start of a new chapter. My son’s wedding has been and gone – now I have a wedding-shaped hole in my to do list. All my crazy challenges for the Stroke Association are over and now my work diary is looking pretty bare. For me, winter is officially over (even though it is still freezing cold) and it’s time to put the winter clothes away and get my summer wardrobe out.

And this blog is starting a new adventure – the Book of Ruth which has only four chapters – four chapters in 30 days…how on earth is that going to work?

eat pray loveWell, in all things, including the blog, I am going to take the opportunity to slow down a little. To breathe. To be more mindful. To appreciate the journey more. I’m not sure if that is even possible for someone like me, but I plan to give it a go. In the quiet moments over the weekend, I watched ‘Eat, pray, love’ – not the greatest of films, but perfect to calm me when my nerves were all over the place. That is what I intend to do – eat, pray, love…..amongst other things.

So…the Book of Ruth…..it’s a bit of a shock, coming as it does after all the tales of evil and bloodshed and immorality and idolatry that make up the Book of Judges. It turns our attention from a whole nation to the story of one woman. It is gentle. It introduces us to ordinary individuals with an overwhelming sense of God’s involvement in their lives, ordinary individuals displaying God’s love and kindness in the midst of tragedy and hardship. It’s a love story with a strong sense of commitment to family and friends.

It gives us all a chance to slow down and breathe and be more mindful and appreciate the journey more.

So welcome to this new adventure that is April and Ruth and life in all its fullness…….
